Team India- Promoting Volunteerism: "We Can!" Program
The goal of the “We Can!” program is to promote volunteerism in Jaipur, India. We want to bridge the gap between students and their community with the help of the NGOs and the NPOs; i.e. we are trying to address the link between students and existing volunteer opportunities. There already exist hundreds of NGOs and NPOs with diverse target pools from education to healthcare to animal life to the environment. Through the program, students will have the opportunity to see and understand the problems different NGOs hope to solve and the solutions these organizations have come up with and are implementing. As they do so, they are expected to use their energy and initiative to identify other ways to meet those challenges. Our optimism for the project derives from the fact that all stakeholders, we approached, agreed with our idea. There seemed to be a felt need for this activity but there was not enough communication between different groups to jump-start the process. Our project directly works with The India International School and IIS University in Jaipur, India to develop and implement the program. Both the school and university are dedicated to hands-on learning.
